While flash floods are normal in the non-monsoon season, it is unusual for a major flood to hit the country in March, when the weather should be calmer and warmer.
However, Johor was suddenly hit with unprecedented floods that forced 45,000 people to evacuate and damaged houses, schools, and properties across the state. One person succumbed to the flood.
Iltizam Relief’s Response to the Johor Floods
Johor experienced a second major flood this year in March 2023. Iltizam Relief deployed aid to Kluang and Segamat on March 2nd and 4th.
On March 6th, Iltizam Relief distributed 100 packs of baby formula milk, 50 diapers, 500 snack packs, 500 hygiene kits, and 500 towels to flood victims in Batu Pahat.
On the same day, Iltizam Relief helped 125 students of SMK Sri Medan in Batu Pahat who were sitting for SPM exams by providing them with new clothes, soaps, blankets, towels, and other items.
Iltizam Relief also supplied groceries for the school to cook for all the flood survivors taking shelter here.
