The people of Syria and Yemen face severe hunger due to prolonged civil wars, disrupting food supplies and collapsing economies. Many families struggle to survive with limited resources. Urgent food aid is needed to alleviate their suffering and support those in dire need.
The ongoing conflicts have disrupted food supplies, destroyed infrastructure, and collapsed economies.
Daily life is fraught with fear and hardship, and many families are struggling to survive with severely limited food resources.
– UN Report: In Yemen, over 80% of the population, including 12 million children, require humanitarian aid. Nearly 10 million people are on the brink of famine.
– The war in Syria has left 12 million people food insecure, with many families forced to survive on a single meal per day.
– Yemen is facing the world’s worst humanitarian crisis with extremely high malnutrition rates.
– There are 7.2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Syria, forced to abandon their homes and properties to escape the warzone. Additionally, 90% of the Syrian population is living in poverty.
Combating Hunger:
Bread is a basic food item that can be easily produced and distributed. By providing free bread, Iltizam Bakery can feed thousands of people daily, helping to alleviate widespread hunger.
Supporting Poor Families:
Many families in Yemen and Syria cannot afford basic food. Free bread helps ease their burden and ensures they do not go hungry.
Saving Lives:
Also, consistent food supply can prevent severe malnutrition and death due to starvation, especially among children.

Iltizam Bakery was developed from an abandoned bread factory. In September 2017, Iltizam Relief Society took over the factory and transformed it into a fully operational bakery.
Beside that, ever since it began operating in 2018, Iltizam Bakery has consistently continued to function up to the present day. Located in the heart of Zabid, home to 52,000 residents, the bakery has become a lifeline for many suffering from hunger.
To date, the bakery has successfully produced over 6 million loaves of bread.
Millions of Syrian IDPs have fled the war and violence to the northern regions of Syria, particularly to Idlib, Aleppo Governorate, and parts of Al-Hasakah province. Consequently, these areas have seen a significant influx of displaced people.
Iltizam has observed that most international aid efforts are concentrated in northwestern Syria, leaving the northeastern region with scarce external support.
In August 2022, Iltizam initiated a project to distribute 12,000 free loaves of bread monthly from a local bakery in Ras Al-‘Ayn to IDP families. This project is ongoing, and as of June 2024, we have provided 264,000 fresh loaves of bread to the Syrian people.
