Emergency Appeal: Devastating Floods in Aceh, Indonesia
Since 18 November, Aceh Province has been hit by severe and widespread floods, triggering what local authorities describe as “tsunami-like” conditions. Homes, villages, and entire communities have been submerged, leaving families with nothing but the clothes they escaped with.
At least 173 people have been reported dead, over 200 are still missing, and more than 500,000 residents have been forced to flee their homes.
Many areas remain cut off, making rescue and relief efforts extremely challenging.
Thousands of families are currently sheltering in overcrowded evacuation centers with no clean water, limited food supply, and rising health risks. Medical teams report increasing cases of infections, dehydration, and waterborne diseases. Many children and elderly individuals are especially vulnerable.
Objectives
- Increase hot meal production capacity from 100 pax/day to at least 700–1,000 pax/day in Tamiang through joint support.
- Provide safe and timely meal distribution to flood-affected communities in the most critical zones identified by HI and local authorities.
- Stabilise and sustain emergency kitchen operations for a minimum of 7–14 days, contributing manpower, supplies, and logistical assistance.
